Time has left you there by yourself,
Left its shadows to conquer your heart,
To wilt the flowers and poison the will,
The death that made pretty also makes ill.

Cooling embers that flare with breath,
Life flashing in the rumour of fire –
I am burnt like those yesterdays,
Ready to open myself and free the seed.

We are made to listen, my darling Ash,
To the stars they put in your whispers,
And to the velveteen creatures of our youth,
Dancing delighted in these fields of corn.

I wish I had more to say to brightness,
In my hands we’d sail a starry sky,
Let the flowers following tell our story,
Of dreams sown in this starfelled lie.

We can let curious doubts root about,
You need not fear what the blind might see,
We know them under a kinder moon,
Within the depths of our affection soon.

It is not by time we grow but love,
Not the side of the equation you’re on,
But the song we are all singing –
Symphony and cacophony in pieces.

Ask where have the mermaids gone?
We both know that we are them,
A burning rage in my beloved tale,
Lying fallow like paradise for a return

Dark chocolate by a mile if a yard
It isn’t steel that will make you hard,
But the bitter taste of sweet disgrace,
And no willing appetite to speak for it.

Double earthquakes or fiery aces,
The frequency of your heart will hold,
Bass and mezzo are trading places,
Open with the song and open your world.
